Fresh Water Wells for Uganda

Madison Rotary Fresh Water Wells for Uganda

An Ongoing Joint Project with Rotary Clubs throughout Southern Connecticut and
in partnership with Call to Care Uganda

Over the past 15 years, Madison Rotary has been actively promoting the boring of fresh water wells for villages and villagers throughout Uganda. During this time, the Club has been engaged in helping with the creation of 22 fresh water wells in the country of Uganda saving more than 20,000 villagers lives through by providing easy access to water.

As Clean Water is one of the seven areas of Focus for Rotary, and the statistics are staggering…

  • Nearly 1 Billion people suffer from access to clean and safe water in our world today…
  • Every 90 seconds a child dies from waterborne disease…
  • There are still 9 million people in Uganda without clean water…
  • In just one day, more than 200 million hours are consumed by women collecting water from distant and polluted sources, carrying 50-pound water jugs on their backs, day in and day out
  • And, Water is considered the #1 global risk, and its impact on society is a true measure of devastation.
